Welcome to our family blog! The hard work of others has finally paid off, and we now have a blog, largely to share the pictures of our littlest one, Avalon! She was born March 10th at 10:58 PM in Grandpa and Grandma Pratt's home (where Lisa and John are staying now). Thanks for visiting!

Notice a Pattern?

Well, Avy has a fever again!  I’m just not sure what to do.  I thought I would post her sick schedule for the past MONTH!  Do you see any patterns?

fever

Other than a fever and lethargy, she has no other symptoms.  When she is feverish, she is clingy and just wants to nurse.  When her fever goes away, everything is back to normal.  No rashes, no cough, no nothing!  Sometimes the fever is really high.  Sometimes, like today, it is low, but still present.  I took her to the doctor a week ago and he was stumped, too.  He suggested watching it another two weeks and then to bring her in for some lab work if it continues or gets worse.  I guess we’ll just keep watching it….

So, please understand why my house is a wreck, I have dark circles under my eyes, there is no food on the table, and all my boys (including John) look like long-haired hippies.  My baby has been sick for over half the month!  No wonder I can’t get “IT” together….

At least it is mild.  Just  a fever.  I really shouldn’t complain.  It could be a lot worse.  It’s nothing really.   I just wish I knew what was going on.  <sigh…>

Ivan is Famous!

A few months ago Ivan participated in a “study” of sorts.  He was videotaped and received a whoppin’ 50 bucks for his time.  I just got forwarded a copy of the final movie.  He’s wearing a red/white/blue striped shirt and is in the middle of the six minute video.  Click below if you want to see the flick!

CORN, CORN, CORN!

We harvested the rest of our corn and had a corn party!  Well, at least for our little family.  Don’t be too disappointed that you weren’t invited.  :)

Calvin was my big helper for the day.  Actually, all of my boys helped PICK the corn.  Then we all SHUCKED the corn.  Then, Calvin helped me cut the corn off of the cob.  (It’s not as easy as it looks, but he did a great job and I was glad to let him use the knife.)

So, this lady taught me a great tool that helps you cut the kernels off.  You take a two by four and nail in a big long NAIL.  (Cal and Ivan did that.)corn5

Here is the nail.  Then, you take your big clean garbage bag and put it over the nail.  That keeps your corn clean.  (As you can see, the 2×4 was NOT clean!)corn4

Slide the corn onto the nail and you are set to start scraping.  Don’t get too close to the woody cob!

Then, you put your corn into a pot and add the rest of the ingredients.  I was able to do almost two full batches.

Voila!  Frozen Corn!  (Well, it isn’t frozen yet here in the picture.  But, it is now!)  I haven’t actually tried the recipe, so I can’t personally vouch for it, but it sounded great!corn2

Reed thought the picture needed a little something more….corn1

Fabulous Frozen Corn

From alpinefoodstorage.com

Shuck Corn.

Cut corn off the cobs. An electric knife works great. Turn a smaller but tall bowl over at the bottom of a large bowl or roasting pan. Rest the corn on the small bowl and cut so that all of the corn falls into the larger bowl. Make sure not to cut too close to the cob.

Put into a pot:
16 cups corn
3 cups water
4 T. sugar (optional)
2 t. salt
½ cup butter (optional)

Mix together, bring to a boil and boil just until the corn becomes translucent (5 minutes.)

Cool and put in freezer bags (juice and all.)

Freeze.

Mutual Dell

We spent a good portion of Labor Day in American Fork Canyon with our Pratt cousins.  I didn’t get the greatest pictures, but we had a lovely time.  Even some of our Pratt 2nd cousins were there (not in photos… Oops!  I guess I only got the camera out once.)  We had a nice fire going (I built it!) and roasted some hot dogs and mallows.  The weather was perfect.  Like I said, it was just lovely.

I took a shot of Grandpa when he wasn’t looking.  He made me take another picture just to prove that he wasn’t grumpy or anything.  I like them both.

No, Grandpa didn’t wet his pants….  He was in a water balloon toss game….  I promise!  Love ya, Grandpa!

The Harvest!

Maybe I let our banana squash get a little too big…..

har5

It weighs about 32 pounds!!

har3

Now, how to prepare it…. hmmmmmm……

Anybody want a chunk?

har4

Our corn actually grew!  We opened a few stalks and had the most beautiful corn!

har2

We are amazed and in awe that this corn actually came out of OUR garden.  What a miracle!  What a wonderful blessing from our Heavenly Father.

Here it is all cooked and ready to enjoy!  It was delicious!
